Summary
We are seeking a talented Music Teacher to join our dynamic Arts and Technology department, with the opportunity to lead this thriving team. You'll teach Music across KS3/4 while contributing to a department that serves Early Years to Year 13 across music, drama, art, design technology, and computer science. This role suits someone who combines strong musicianship with enthusiasm for educational innovation and technology integration.
Position Duties
The successful candidate will be able to effectively:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection).
- Deliver engaging, practical music lessons across KS3/4, differentiating for the full range of abilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas and information clearly and proficiently.
- Have decisiveness in classroom control and managing practicals.
- Plan and deliver lessons in accordance with the goals and objectives of a clearly defined and documented curriculum.
- Plan and teach a student-centred curriculum that develops musicianship, creativity, and confidence.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Observe, monitor and record student progress with excellent personal administration skills.
- Respond appropriately to the range of individual needs and abilities within the class.
- Use educational technology effectively to enhance learning and broaden musical experiences.
- Be flexible and adaptable to changes with regards to distance learning if necessary.
- Be committed to the school’s pastoral system in the role of form tutor.
- Be committed to supporting student wellbeing and academic care.
- Champion digital literacy initiatives and innovative practice.
- Contribute to whole-school events, performances, and enrichment activities.
- Lead curriculum development across the Arts and Technology subjects (Head of Arts and Technology).
- Line-manage and support department colleagues (Head of Arts and Technology).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Headteacher.
QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of a University degree* in the subject area of employment (Master’s degree preferred).
- Current teacher certification in the required subject area. Certification should be from a nationally recognised institution.
- Classroom teachers should be able to demonstrate relevant experience and certification in teaching similar school programs as the applied for position (preferred).
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience:
- Proven track record teaching Music at secondary level.
- Experience with G Suite.
- Middle leadership experience (if applying for HoD responsibility).
Skills:
- Strong musicianship with the ability to inspire students across ability levels.
- Excellent communication; clear, professional, and approachable.
- Confident managing practical sessions, rehearsals, and performances.
- Ability to lead or contribute to extra-curricular music activities.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Fluent in English and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good interpersonal skills in interacting with students, parents and colleagues.
- Ability to supervise students in non-classroom settings.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
