Summary

ASD seeks a dynamic Librarian with a passion for providing students agency in their own learning and instilling a love of literacy in students.  The ideal candidate will have experience inspiring students to become conscientious and compassionate thinkers and global citizens.  This person would demonstrate a commitment to a well-rounded and flexible program that encompasses interdisciplinary connections, literacy, and authentic/relevant learning experiences. ASD has a strong sense of community. The successful candidate would be committed to contributing to the whole school community beyond the confines of the homeroom.  The ideal candidate would be eager to engage in collaboration around our mission: We inspire innovation and compassionate action.

Position Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection).
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of ISG District organization policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of library policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Model the ISG Guiding Principles.
  • Provide leadership and support to the library team members and/or teaching staff.
  • Assist in planning activities for the library, as a whole, and with individual classes.
  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the library to minimally include circulation desk management, customer service, student management, student learning, facilities supervision, etc.
  • Development, coordination, and maintenance of digital databases for campus use, including overseeing eBook processes, including the Destiny platform.
  • Supervise, direct, train, and manage library staff, and assist in annual appraisals.
  • Lead in collection development, including selection of materials, weeding, and inventory, following best practices and in line with the current curriculum.
  • Foster a culture of reading for learning and for pleasure.
  • Collaborate with library staff in professional development processes and in planning for student learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver lessons in accordance with the goals and objectives of a clearly defined and documented curriculum (including Common Core).
  • Work effectively with teachers to coordinate library skill instruction for individual classes or groups.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching practices, flexibility, and creativity.

  • Maintain a safe learning environment for students at all times, including student supervision.
  • Respond appropriately to the range of individual needs and abilities among students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE

 The candidate must have: 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.

 The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school (preferred).
  • Teacher/Librarian certification (preferred).
  • An advanced degree in a related field of study.
